Skin Tags - Skin Products & Information

What is a Skin Tag?

Skin tags are small growths that are generally harmless. They are harmless so you do not have to worry about them developing into cancer or any other serious conditions. Skin tags can also be called cutaneous skin tags or Acrochordons. These skin protrusions can appear in different forms. Some may be small and flat while others protrude from the skin on stalks (peduncles) with lumps on the end. Some skin tags are smooth and some irregular while others are pigmented. They are not a painful condition and they do not generally change over time either. What causes skin tags is not entirely understood. Skin tags can develop on any part of the body with the most common areas being eyelids, neck, armpits, upper chest and groin. And most people develop these tags during middle age.

Skin tags can vary in size from very small to half and inch long. If you are concerned with any skin growths that you have discovered on the skin you may want to make an appointment with your doctor. He or she will be able to put your mind at rest if what you have is a skin tag. They are easily diagnosed. Your doctor will probably not recommend getting it removed, as it is entirely unnecessary. If however it is in a place that causes irritation or it looks cosmetically displeasing you can arrange to have it removed with minimal, if any scarring. Skin tags are a minor skin condition that is harmless, if you are prone to developing skin tags you have noting to worry about as far as your health. They are a normal part of many people's aging process.

Sometimes it causes some minor issues especially in men of they happen in the face. They can be a real problem during shaving and since these contain blood vessels a small cut could cause considerable blood loss. The procedure to remove is usually a five minute job. They can be removed after applying liquid nitrogen or just cutting using a scissors and applying pain relieving or antiseptic treatments. For larger tags the doctors may suggest local anesthesia. The older method of removal is a slow process, a thread or hair is tied around the skin tag. After two or three days the blood vessels stop and the tissues start to die. This is a real irritating and sometimes a painful process. We really hope the information given in this website is really useful.
